late Qingbaikouan (middle Tonian), Qb (26-a)

Province:
Shandong

Type Locality and Naming

Northeast peninsula of Shandong. The Xiangkuang Fm was named by the Jiaodong (E. Shandong) Geological Survey of Changchun College of Geology in 1960. It was quoted by the Committee of Stratigraphy of China in 1962. The naming section is located in Xiangkuang Douya, Qixia County, Shandong Province.

Upper part consists of gray, yellowish gray and dark gray medium- to thick-bedded limestone, dolomitic limestone. In the top part, thick-bedded limestone includes minor black siliceous masses. It is about 1020 m in thick.

Lithology Pattern:
Clayey limestone

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

In the bottom, brown gray thin-bedded marl rest conformably on the underlying yellow green slate at top of the Mashan Fm.

Upper contact

The blue gray dolomitic crystalline limestone at the top of the formation shows intrusive contact with granophyric textured granite. In many places, the top part is covered by Quaternary or Cretaceous strata.

Regional extent

Northeast peninsula of Shandong. The formation is distributed locally, which are mainly developed in the Xiangkuang Pb-Zn mine, cement factory and Douya, Qixia County, Shandong Province.
